Matt grew up in Arlington, Virginia, and he started following Christ his senior year of high school. After graduating with degrees in biology from The College of William & Mary and Indiana University, he taught high school science for five years before sensing God’s call to pastoral ministry. Matt served as an intern and then associate pastor at Fellowship Bible Church Dallas while completing his Th.M. at Dallas Theological Seminary. Following seminary graduation, Matt returned to his hometown, where he served for 13 years as an associate pastor of Cherrydale Baptist Church.

In 2023, God called Matt back to Texas to serve as Lead Pastor of Sojourn Heights. Matt’s passion is to help others understand and embrace God’s radical and abundant love and grace through the gospel of Jesus Christ. He loves to teach and preach the full counsel of God’s Word, and he is committed to shepherd and equip this local church as we follow Jesus together in the power of the Spirit to the glory of God. Matt and his wife Ashley live in Brooke Smith with their three children, Caroline, Elizabeth, and Tommy. One of the many things that he loves about Houston is the prevalence of delicious breakfast tacos. Matt enjoys going on family adventures, reading good books, drinking average coffee, puttering in the garden, coaching his kids’ sports, and cheering for his beloved Indiana Hoosiers.
